AF-200 Universal® sealing sheet
Application
A universal, oil-resistant sealing sheet designed for use with most media within a range of medium pressures and temperatures.
Material
The GAMBIT AF-200 Universal gasket sheet is manufactured from:
- KEVLAR® aramid fibres
- mineral fibres
- fillers
These components are bound together by an NBR rubber-based binder.

If you are making a custom gasket and wish to avoid leaks resulting from an incorrectly selected thickness or format, the Gambit AF 200 variants are the right place to start. The AF-200 Universal gasket sheet is suitable for use with water, steam, gas, oils, fuels, alcohols and basic chemicals at moderate pressures and temperatures, making it ideal for many common maintenance applications.
How do you select a Gambit AF 200 gasket sheet for the medium and operating conditions?
The Gambit AF 200 gasket sheet should first be selected to suit the medium – that is, the working fluid in the system – and only then according to the sheet dimensions. The material, based on KEVLAR aramid fibres – which are high-strength fibres – as well as mineral fibres and fillers, is oil-resistant and versatile, but it still needs to be suited to the temperature, pressure and condition of the contact surface.
When making your selection, check the following first and foremost:
- the type of working medium, for example water, steam, gas, oil or fuel,
- the operating range, i.e. the average pressures and temperatures during actual system operation,
- the condition of the flange, i.e. the flatness and condition of the surface against which the gasket will be pressed,
- the method of installation, particularly ensuring that the bolts are tightened evenly without localised overloading.
The manufacturer GAMBIT specifies AF-200 Universal as a material suitable for most typical applications; however, in the case of aggressive media or extreme operating conditions, a more specialised gasket must be selected.
Thickness and format determine the seal’s effectiveness and the amount of waste
The AF-200 Universal sheet is available in thicknesses of 0.5, 1.0, 1.5, 2.0 and 4.0 mm and in sizes of 250 × 250, 250 × 500, 500 × 500 and 1500 × 1500 mm. The choice of variant begins with the sealing surface, as a sheet that is too thin will not compensate for unevenness, whilst one that is too thick may require greater pressure and be more prone to deformation.
Thin sheets of 0.5–1.0 mm are usually chosen for even surfaces and small cross-sections. The 1.5–2.0 mm range is the most common compromise between fit and stability. A thickness of 4.0 mm makes sense where greater gap-filling capacity is required, but the installation must be carefully controlled. In a workshop, it is also worth selecting such consumables with regard to waste generation and storage requirements.
When is this versatile material the right choice?
The AF-200 gasket sheet is ideal when you need to cut a gasket yourself for servicing, repairs or to make a component to a specific design. The uniform structure of the sheet facilitates consistent cutting, whilst the consistent thickness helps maintain the required sealing quality in workshop and industrial applications.
For workshops and users who cut individual gaskets
Workshops usually opt for a larger format, as unit cost is a key factor when making several cuts, as is the availability of stock on the shelf. Users who need just one gasket are more likely to opt for smaller sheets to avoid overpaying for unused material. When comparing the options on the list, start with the dimensions of the finished gasket, then select the thickness based on the surface condition and the type of medium. Following this order minimises the risk of leaks right from the first installation.
FAQ
1. What media and parameters does the AF‑200 gasket support?
The AF‑200 is suitable for water, steam, gases, oils, fuels, alcohols and basic chemicals at moderate pressures and temperatures; for aggressive media, a specialised material should be selected.
2. How do you select the plate thickness to suit surface irregularities and the installation?
0.5–1.0 mm works well on even surfaces and small cross-sections; 1.5–2.0 mm is the most common compromise; 4.0 mm fills larger gaps but requires controlled installation and greater clamping force.
3. Which size is best for a workshop, and which for a single seal?
A workshop opts for larger formats to reduce the unit cost and maintain stock on the shelf; a one-off user tends to choose smaller sheets to minimise waste — first the seal’s dimensions, then the sheet size.
