A leak at a flange, cover, or body is usually not caused by the absence of a gasket. More often, the problem lies in incorrect thickness, insufficient oil resistance, or a sheet size that is poorly matched to the required die cut. Gambit AF-1000 gasket sheets allow you to select the material best suited to your operating conditions.
This category offers sheet sizes of 250x250, 250x500, and 1500x1500 mm, with thicknesses ranging from 0.8 to 4.0 mm. This range is sufficient for both single repairs and mass production of cut parts.
What are Gambit gaskets, and how do they differ from standard gaskets?
In practice, the term “Gambit gasket” refers to sheet material from which gaskets are cut to a specific shape and for specific operating conditions. A standard gasket has a fixed size, while a gasket sheet offers a choice of thickness, size, and chemical resistance. This difference is important where clamping force, temperature, and contact with fuel or oil are critical factors.
AF-1000 sheets are based on aramid and mineral fibers and an NBR rubber binder. As a result, they withstand water, steam, kerosene, gasoline, fuels, and oils well. In the automotive industry, this material is sometimes referred to as “engine-grade” or “oil-grade.”
When making your selection, check the following first and foremost:
- the operating medium—water, steam, fuel, or oil,
- continuous and peak temperatures,
- the maximum operating pressure,
- surface condition and flange width,
- the sheet size required for the cutout.
Selecting Sheet Thickness and Size
The thickness is selected based on surface irregularities and joint stiffness. A 0.8–1.0 mm sheet works well for smooth flanges and precise clamping, 1.5–2.0 mm provides greater tolerance for minor irregularities, and 3.0–4.0 mm is used where greater material flexibility is required. A sheet that is too thick does not automatically improve the seal, as it can make it difficult to apply even pressure.
The sheet size affects the amount of waste. Cutting out one or two gaskets usually justifies a 250x250 or 250x500 mm sheet, while a full 1500x1500 mm sheet makes sense for a larger number of cutouts. This is clearly reflected in the prices: a small 250x250x0.8 mm sheet costs 23.00 PLN, while a 1500x1500x4.0 mm sheet costs 1,966.90 PLN.
What specifications and standards confirm the quality of AF-1000?
Gasket sheets should specify the material designation, temperature, pressure, and resistance to media. AF-1000 complies with DIN 28091-2 FA-AM1-ST, operates continuously up to 350 °C and up to 420 °C intermittently, and up to 250 °C in steam. The maximum operating pressure is 12 MPa.
These specifications are more important than the Gambit name itself. If the gaskets are to be used in an engine, a housing, or a flange joint, selection based on the medium, temperature, and thickness is more important than relying solely on the price per sheet.
FAQ
1. How do I select the gasket thickness based on surface roughness and contact pressure?
Select based on surface irregularities and joint stiffness: 0.8–1.0 mm for smooth surfaces and precise contact pressure; 1.5–2.0 mm for minor irregularities; 3.0–4.0 mm when greater flexibility is needed. A sheet that is too thick makes it difficult to apply even pressure.
2. Which sheet size is best for a single repair, and which for mass-production cuts?
For one or two gaskets, choose 250x250 or 250x500 to minimize waste; for a larger number of cuts, a full 1500x1500 sheet is more economical. The sheet size affects the amount of waste and the unit cost.
