Description
Swirl vanes are components used in diesel engines whose primary function is to introduce turbulence into the airflow into the combustion chamber in order to improve combustion efficiency. Unfortunately, these vanes have many drawbacks. First, swirl vanes are a part of the engine that is subject to heavy wear and can fail. Their failure can lead to serious engine performance issues, such as a loss of power, noise, or vibrations.
Second, swirl flaps, even when open, significantly restrict airflow, which creates additional resistance and reduces combustion efficiency. In particular, when modifying an engine to increase power and torque, swirl flaps become a major limitation on engine performance.
Finally, swirl flaps are also expensive to repair or replace. Removing them and replacing them with plugs is a popular modification among automotive enthusiasts who want to boost their engine’s performance and avoid costly repairs.
